Worship with Us

What to Expect

Palisades is a warm church where you are welcome “as you are” or in your Sunday best. Our worship lasts a bit over an hour offering the best of a valued tradition with what is fresh and relevant.

We blend a wide-range of musical styles, incorporate youth as acolytes, offer a Sermon on the Steps children’s message, host Communion on first Sundays, and invite you for fellowship and Sunday Forum following worship.

Palisades is a comfortable church where parking is easy on the bluff; we have modern screens and printed bulletins, large-print hymnals and assisted listening devices.

We offer hands-on expressions of care through Prayer Quilts and a prayer chain.

While we search for a Called Pastor, our Transitional Co-Pastors Pastor Rosalind and Pastor Gary Ziccardi welcome you!

Worship at 9:30am

For the Children

After the Sermon on the Steps, children ages 4 through 6th grade are invited to participate in the Sunday School program. If  your child/children choose to stay in worship, they are always welcome. We have age-appropriate “Busy Bags” full of activities, or you can slip out with your child and watch the livestream service. Children ages 3 and under are welcome in the Nursery.

Music Ministry

Kelley Hart

Music Director

Kelley Hart is a San Diego-based musician and educator. Hailing from Southwest Missouri, Kelley was the Director of Music at the First Christian Church in Mt. Vernon, MO, as well as the Associate Director of Music at Tarrytown United Methodist Church in Austin, TX.

Kelley has been trained as a singer, pianist, flautist, and choral conductor. She holds a Master of Music in Opera Performance from the University of Texas at Austin, a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, MO, as well as an Associate Degree in Mathematics. She is a frequent soloist for oratorio and concert performances, as well as chamber music recitals. Among the various stage roles she has performed, some of her favorites are Poppea in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea; the Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute, Despina in Così fan tutte, Della in Dan Wagner’s Gift of the Magi, and Eve in Bock & Harnick’s musical The Apple Tree.

In addition to performing, Kelley is dedicated to teaching music and has been educating students for over 20 years. She is currently the director of lower school strings and orchestra at La Jolla Country Day School. She previously served on the voice faculty of the University of San Diego, The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH, and Kenyon College in Gambier, OH. She also taught music at the Christ Church Day School in Coronado. In addition, Kelley has been music director for several youth musical theater performances including Les Misérables with ACT in San Diego.

Kelley is the co-founder and associate director of Opera NEO, a summer opera festival and young artist training program based at the Palisades Presbyterian Church. Opera NEO brings talented young opera singers from all around the country to learn and perform opera in San Diego.

Kelley has been the Music Director at Palisades Presbyterian Church since January of 2011.

The Palisades Presbyterian Church Music Ministry team works together to support weekly worship with diverse styles of music. The choir and praise band volunteer their time and talents, dedicating joyful hours preparing and rehearsing to offer their best. I thank them all for their dedication to the music ministry and for being wonderful friends and colleagues to make music to God’s glory!

With a deep well of “in-house” talent, our musicians present special presentations throughout the year – including the Advent Hanging of the Greens program, the Christmas Choral Presentation, and an annual Holy Week Choral Presentation. We often welcome guest musicians including Barbara Welsh-Osga on oboe and English horn, Carol Pelkner on marimba, the Chancel Chimes ringing quartet, the sublime signing choir, Love in Motion, and offerings by Opera NEO artists throughout the year, with special operatic events including an Aria Marathon in July.

We have a wonderful musical life at Palisades. I invite you to consider making music with us. Joining the choir is a great way to make new friends and participate in worship in a very meaningful way.

As always, it is my prayer that God will be glorified and that His people will be touched through music, as we give back to Him the gifts He has given us. Thank you for this opportunity to serve.

Blessings and Love,
Kelley Hart

From Ash Wednesday through Lent to Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday culminating in Easter, this six-week season runs the gamut of the human experience and presents the height of human hope. With special music under the leadership of Music Director, Kelley Hart and contemporary music by the Praise Band we are spiritually prepared for this is the highest celebration in the Christian church. Advent and Christmas

Christmas season is a must! Kicked off by Christ the King Sunday, the last Sunday in the liturgical calendar, we enter the four weeks of Advent with weekly Vespers, Hanging of the Greens (an experiential all-ages worship service of carols and readings that prepares the sanctuary and our hearts for the Christ-child with a pre-event homecooked dinner), Christmas on the Point with praise, carols, and a movie snuggled under a blanket, a Christmas Choral Presentation, and of course, a candlelight Christmas Eve service!
