Bridge Interim Pastor
Rev. Jim Rauch
Jim Rauch begins serving as “bridge interim” pastor for Palisades September 1st. Jim served as pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Escondido, California, from 1996-2017. He served as Associate Pastor in youth ministry at Chula Vista Presbyterian Church from 1986-1996. Jim received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from UCSD and a Masters of Divinity from Princeton Seminary and was ordained in 1986. Jim grew up on the Palos Verdes Peninsula with five younger sisters.
Jim and his wife Elizabeth have a son, Samuel, who graduated from Cal Poly SLO and now lives in Tucson, AZ. They have a daughter Jesse and son-in-law Tyler who are graduates of Azusa Pacific University. They have two grandchildren, Nora and Everett, who live nearby in Escondido.
Jim’s main recreational pursuits are mountain biking and home improvement projects. He and Elizabeth also help care for their parents.
His favorite Bible verse is John 8:12 – “Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’”
Rev. Dr. Robert W. Mentze volunteers his service to Palisades and was formally welcomed as Parish Associate by action of the Session. Pastor Bob hosts Tuesday at 10 weekly Adult Bible Study and has preached and moderated Session on occasion. We are blessed to have him share his passion for Christ, intellect, talent, and years of professional wisdom with us.
A native San Diegan and graduate of Crawford High School, Bob is the son of two public school music teachers, and is an avid musician himself. He received his B.A. in Psychology from San Diego State University, while writing, producing and announcing for Family Radio. Bob then received his Master of Divinity from San Francisco Theological Seminary (San Anselmo, CA), while serving as Director of Youth Ministries at Marin Covenant Church in San Rafael, CA. Bob earned his Doctor of Ministry (D. Min.) from Westminster Seminary, California. His book, Music Magnifies the Message, is based on the research for his dissertation. Called in 1977 as Associate Pastor at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Escondido, Bob served a youth program that increased 10-fold. He then served as Pastor of the Lakeside Community Presbyterian Church from March, 1984 until his retirement on October 1, 2018. Bob co-founded the Lakeside Christian HELPS Center and was Adjunct Professor of Reformed Worship at Bethel Theological Seminary for 10 years. He is now a Professor of Worship at the new Pacific Theological Seminary and serves committees of the Presbytery of San Diego. His hobbies are photography, gardening, hiking and music.
